Solid State Drive Upgrades
At Felixstowe Computer Repairs we love SSD upgrades. They are always the most effective way of speeding up an old or slow laptop or desktop computer and it is great to hear all of the positive feedback from customers after we have done these upgrades.
Most devices come with Hard Disc Drives installed. You may be more familiar with this term. A hard disc drive is a mechanical part that reads your data a bit like how a record player reads music from a vinyl. The downsides to these are they are considerably slower than an SSD.
SSD stand for “Solid State Drive”. They hold your operating system and data, just like a hard drive. However they are chip based rather than a mechanical part, a bit like an internal USB Stick.
The benefits of upgrading to an SSD are huge. Because they are chip based, they are considerably faster. Adding up to 70% more speed to your device! No more having to turn your device on, to then go and make a cuppa before you can use it. An SSD will turn this 2-5 minute boot time into a 30 second to 1 minute boot. Not only this, but the speeds continue after booting up and continue through use.
There are many different sized Solid State Drives ranging at different prices. We can recommend you a drive that suits your storage uses and budget.
What about your data though? That’s another great bit of news regarding SSD upgrades. We can make a physical clone of your old system so that when you boot it back in, your device will be exactly the same as before the upgrade. The only difference you will notice will be the speed increases!

RAM Upgrades
Another great way of making your laptop or desktop run faster is by upgrading, or adding more RAM to your device. RAM stands for Random Access Memory, it basically stores temporary data such as what you are currently working on, to take the load off the main processor whilst in use. I like to refer it to a flowing river. The wider the river, the more water can flow through. With regard to RAM, the more RAM you have, the more faster it can run. I would recommend having at least 4GB as a minimum. However, ideally having at least 8GB RAM will speed up the processing of your laptop or desktop computer.
Regarding RAM, there are different versions, which will vary depending on device and age. Also there are different sizes that each device will have, or be compatible with. Here at Felixstowe Computer Repairs we will recommend the ideal size to upgrade to depending on your budget and the compatibility of the device.
Not only will we fit the RAM and make sure it boots okay, we also run tests using premium testing tools to ensure that your device is fully working prior to giving it back to you. We will also provide details of these test results.
