Liquid Damage Repair Services at Felixstowe Computer Repairs

Our Liquid Damage Repairs start at just £40.00

No matter how careful one may be, there will always be a time where you experience an accidental spillage. Maybe from yourself, another member of the household, a guest or from an over excited or clumsy pet. Most of the time we are fortunately okay, having it spill on just the floor or table, only needing to be wiped up and dried off with a towel.

However, unfortunately there are times where the spillage will land directly onto your Desktop Computer, Laptop or Apple Mac.

Here at Felixstowe Computer Repairs we offer repairs for liquid damage to all of these devices. Although even the smallest of spills may leave you thinking that your device has had it, there is always hope. Fortunately, we have a high success rate when it comes to repairing liquid damage. However, there are steps you will need to take immediately to ensure the best rates of success when saving a device that has had some liquid spilled onto it. We will go into these below.

What to do if your device has just experienced an accidental spillage

The first and most important step can also be the hardest temptation to not act upon. It is very important not to turn your device on. Trying to turn on a device which has just been the victim of liquid damage can be the main cause of permanent failure. Water is extremely conductive and even the smallest amounts of liquid within a computer or laptop can cause it to short circuit, blow some internal micro components and lead to permanent damage which can either not be repairable or is uneconomical to repair. We would advise that as soon as the spillage has happened that you immediately unplug the device from its power source (the charger if it is plugged in) and remove the battery if possible.

The next step is to bring it in for repair as soon as possible. A lot of people tend to leave it to dry out for a few days hoping that it will turn back on (We have all heard of the rice technique which unfortunately is more of a myth than a solution). After a few days, to the amazement and excitement of the customer this can in fact be the case. However, they then continue to use the device for a few days, weeks or even months to then suddenly have it cut out or not turn on one day with no idea why. This is due to corrosion. In fact, providing that there was no nasty short circuiting or blown micro components, corrosion is actually the most detrimental damage a device with liquid damage can experience. When a device has been exposed to liquid it is also exposed to the ions within the liquid. Ions cause oxygenation which can very quickly lead to corrosion and rusting. Even after a few hours to a few days this corrosion can eat away at the internal components and cause permanent damage which can result in the components having to be fully replaced, or if uneconomical to do so, the whole device replaced.

Of course, there are times where unfortunately you were not aware of this advise and have either left it for days to weeks. This is not all bad, fortunately Felixstowe Computer Repairs have a high success rate for devices that have even been exposed to liquid for a while. It may need to have the internal components replaced rather than repaired in these instances but it still usually ends up cheaper and more economical than physically replacing the device. However we will always advise if it is more economical to replace.

We will always prioritise a liquid damaged repair and will start the repair immediately.

If your Device is not repairable but you still have important data we also offer Data Recovery Services.
